The boyfriends part for Christmas break, each returning home to his family. Nathan’s cold parents won a trip to Israel, but somehow “forgot” to tell their son. When he hears that he’s to spend the holidays alone, he decides to make his way to Wisconsin to be with his sweetie and family. When he gets there, there are a few surprises: Gunn is in the closet; Gunn’s mom, Anya (Kelly Keaton) is a major Christmas freak who says “Dontcha” frequently; and Gunn takes after his dad Sven (Derek Long) — anatomically speaking — a fact learned when Gunn’s stoner dad greets Nathan at the door in an open bathrobe. With constant double-entendres flying from Anya’s mouth and Gunn Sr. always stoned, no one seems to notice that Gunn is gay and dating Nathan. With the closet walls closing in on Nathan, he decides to flee back to his empty home — the Gunnunderson’s are a little too fruity even for him! Giddily exuberant, Rob Williams’ latest is not only filled with laugh-out-loud jokes, but also with boys who look oh so cute together. Dontcha think?

Shot in the gay Russian River resort town of Guerneville, David Lewis' new film is leagues more polished than Rock Haven and it's got even more soul, if that's possible. Redwoods will suck you into its warm cinematic womb and won't let go. Everett (Brendan Bradley) and Miles (Tad Coughenour) have a comfortable, non-passionate relationship. Together they are raising Billy, a learning disabled boy, who takes up much of the loving and attention in their home. Miles and Billy go off to visit the grandparents and leave Everett to work in peace. There isn't even a kiss shared between the two men before the departure. Shortly after they leave, Chase (Matthew Montgomery) stops his car at Everett’s house and asks for directions. There is an instant connection between the two men. Later that day Everett visits his B&B and "just happens to bump into" his new friend. And then while antique store hunting with his Mom, the two men run into each other again and the flirtation is official. Despite Everett's reticence and clumsiness, Chase persists and their love blossoms quickly. Matthew Montgomery (Socket, Back SoonandGone, But Not Forgotten) and cast are superb in their roles. Truly a fine actor, Matthew Montgomery’s talent seems to grow with each of his film roles. With its original score, great scenery and mushy-beyond-belief story,Redwoods is bound to become a gay classic.

3. "Were the World Mine" <<<------ Click here too order !!!

Timothy (Tanner Cohen) is a gay boy stranded in a private boys school obsessed with rugby. There’s just one thing about rugby he's obsessed with, the über-hot Jonathan (Nathaniel David Becker). Both boys are students in Ms. Tebbit's (Wendy Robie, who "Twin Peaks" fans will recognize as "Nadine") English class. She's a teacher with a mission: to excite her students with the literature of the ages. When she decides to cast these two boys as the romantic leads in her production of Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and to cast boys in girl's roles, you know she’s just as mischievous as Puck himself. The rugby Coach and townspeople are up in arms, and Timothy sends himself off into musical gay fantasies that look as if they're designed by Pierre et Gilles. But Timothy just can't get the language right and Ms. Tebbit advises the boy to let the words work their magic. They do just that as Timothy finds in the script the recipe for a potion to make people gay! One spritz from Timothy's magic pansy and the person goes totally queer. The entire town (filled with Christian fundamentalists) is whipped into frenzy as the glorious production night approaches. This deliciously surreal confection of a film is steered by first-time co-writer/director Thomas Gustafson, whose 2003 short Fairies inspired this bit of magic. The musical numbers are over-the-top, production values first-rate and the acting is as flawlessly beautiful as the boys. We know the Bard would appreciate this totally queer take on his immortal tale of mayhem, "If we shadows have offended, think but this, and all is mended."

We're not sure which is the bigger news here, the reappearance of sexy Brad Rowe (Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss), the gorgeous flesh on display or the simply elegantly pure love story that is Shelter.

Zach (Wright) has put his art school ambitions on hold to take care of his nephew Cody while his sister Jeanne (Tina Holmes, "Six Feet Under" fans will recognize instantly) "dates" a variety of men. Zach is holding down a diner job, riding the waves and frequently watching out for his young charge. Zach's buddy Gabe (Thomas) has some big news, his big brother Shaun (Rowe) has come home from L.A. While it's no secret that Shaun is gay, no one knows that Zach has a major crush on the thirtysomething man. He's read his novels and longed to experience man love with his best bud's older brother. While it takes a half hour till their first kiss, it's well worth the wait! There are so many obstacles to their romance; the kid nephew, Zach's closet mentality, and Shaun's desire to move back to L.A.

Coming from Here! the folks who bring us the torrid "Dante's Cove," Shelteris a gentler tale. This is a film filled with superlative writing, first-class acting and some sweet tender gay moments.

5. "Latter Days" <<<------ Click here too order !!!

Match a hunky repressed Mormon missionary with an LA party boy, sensual sex and knowing humor, and the result is a film you won't soon forget. Christian (Wesley A. Ramsey) is a handsome, vapid young man who flits from guy to guy without much of a thought in his pretty little head. All his co-workers at Lila's restaurant expect only the latest bedroom report from him. So when his roommate Julie (Rebekah Jordan) discovers that the gorgeous group of young men who moved in next door are Mormon missionaries, they take a bet on whether Christian can bed one of them. Christian quickly moves in for the kill, identifying Elder Aaron Davis (Steve Sandvoss) as a repressed homo - and quite a sexy one at that. Their initial encounters have a charged sexual tension, but fear of the devil keeps Aaron’s libido at bay. When the two find themselves alone together they kiss passionately. Aaron’s Mormon missionary roommates interrupt, spot their brother as a homo and send him back in shame to his Idaho hometown and embarrassed parents.

We can't tell you what happens next because we’re not going to ruin this romantic drama for you, but C. Jay Cox is a Hollywood screenwriter with all that entails. His work on Sweet Home Alabama which included a great gay character, brought kudos, but this is clearly his project of love. The incredibly handsome and charismatic Sandvoss, in his debut film, gives us fierce non-verbal emotion that few actors can match - watch this boy's career. All of the acting is first-rate, including Amber Benson as Christian’s co-worker, Mary Kay Place as Aaron’s stern mother and Jacqueline Bisset as Christian’s restaurant boss who harbors her own secrets. It’s a grand gay screen romance with large-scale emotions that belongs in everyone's collection.

DVD Extras: The commentary with writer/director C. Jay Cox and stars Wes Ramsey and Steve Sandvoss is excellent. The straight, but very gay friendly, stars are respectful and intelligent. There are some insights into the "blue shorts" and C. Jay tells us which parts of the film are autobiographical. The making-of documentary is short, sweet and again filled with insights for fans. The photo gallery has a few photos not on the website. And finally C. Jay Cox's short film is funny and there's a joke for Latter Days addicts who know all the lines, and we know there are tons of you out there. We give the extras four stars!

Although we have yet to meet, I have not stopped thinking about you since first hearing about the emotional abuse you are now suffering in the hands of your supposed-family and their hunch-men.

I have no children of my own although I hope to be able to adopt or become a foster parent someday but I wish to tell you that in my heart, you are already my child.

I look forward to welcoming you into your new home with Travis as my son-in-law whenever you can find the strength to tell your oppressors that you no longer wish for their "help".

Once you renounce any authorization you may have given them under duress, they may be liable for possible kidnapping charges unless they release you immediately.

I am not rich but I would be more than willing to drive or fly anywhere they may be holding you to greet you and take you to safety. I am sure we can find many loving people around the world (just look at some of them here) who would be more than willing to help with the cost of sending you back to school where you truly belong.

It's Your Auntie Mamie's first movie review since the new scaled-down MGDR Weekly Schedule was announced and she is bringing you a rather interesting, if taboo, topic today. She will be delving into brotherly love with Harry and Max (1988) (117 min - Rated R). This is a somewhat timely subject with the upcoming theatrical release of the Brazilian movie of the same genre, Do começo ao fim.

Synopsis:

Harry and Max, is the story of 2 brothers, Harry (gorgolicious Bryce Johnson) and his younger sibling Max (adorable Cole Williams) who not only share a passion for the same career as but also for each other.

Although the storyline is a bit controversial, the director's treatment of their relationship and the actors' incredible on-screen chemistry make the viewers less likely to run out of the room screaming. We soon put their unusual relationship in the background and concentrate on their personal struggles.

It will come as no surprise to most that this movie has its share of sexual innuendos but there are no gratuitous nudity to speak of, which is somewhat unusual considering the actors involved are pure eye candy... But rather than diminish the final product, I think the lack of skin actually enhances the audience's appreciation for the thorny topic.

Likely to remain controversial, especially with the fundamentalist zealots arguing against marriage equality, Harry and Max remains an extremely well adapted and sensitive treatment of a very delicate subject matter.

Cal decides to make his break from the gang official by trying to restrain them so that Oliver can escape. Ignoring Nessa's fierce taunts, Cal chases after Olivier and takes him to safety. The two young men together plot a revenge scheme, which then turns quickly to lust and then love. Shank is a very real, edgy and raw British drama played out on the streets of Bristol.

Welcome back my dahlings to My Gay DVD Reviews!

Great news for Your Auntie Mamie! She just got a JOB !!! After being unemployed for over 6 months since moving to Texas, she was able to finally find something she would like to do. She will be working for a local Allstate Insurance Agent as an outside salesperson and helping the owner get his newly acquired agency into shape.

If you know of anyone in Texas who needs to have a free review of their current coverages or is looking to start a new home, auto or life insurance policy, please have them call Your Auntie Mamie. :-)

This does mean that the MGDR blog will have to become a part-time passion and Your Auntie Mamie will only be able to do two movie reviews each week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays. If time allows, she will try to do one on Saturdays as well.

Now IF her little dahlings would start patronizing the MGDR online shopping partners, then Your Auntie Mamie might eventually be able someday to quit her 9 to 5 job and blog all day, every day. Until then, she does have to put food on the table and a roof over her tiara. ;-)

Instead of posting a review for MGDR Viewers' Choice Friday, Your Auntie Mamie has decided to dedicate this day to two of her lovely dahlings, Bryce Faulkner and Travis Swanson. Some of you are probably already familiar with their names because their story has recently been reaching the Internet.

Your Auntie Mamie first heard of Bryce's plight through an article written by a very dear dahling of hers, Waymon Hudson (aka the First Lady of South Florida), on his blog for The Bilerico Project. Please take the time to read this article and do consider following Waymon's column as he certainly is a very wonderful writer and an even better human being.

After crying her heart out, Your Auntie Mamie has decided to adopt Bryce and Travis as her very own children. Since fate has kept her from having offsprings of her own, your favorite auntie has decided that these two amazing lovers shall become the first two of what will hopefully be a very long list of cherished sons and daughters.

Travis has asked Your Auntie Mamie to help him share Bryce's story with the whole world and to have all of her little dahlings do the same. What can you do??? Your Auntie Mamie is so glad you asked...

It's MGDR Romance Thursday and Your Auntie Mamie is bringing you a Gay Classic today: Torch Song Trilogy (1988) (117 min - Rated R).

Synopsis:

Torch Song Trilogy, the Tony Award play by Harvey Fierstein is a coming of age story full of love, laughter, anguish, sadness and pain all wrapped into an epic gay classic that every GLBT and their allies should own (or at least watch). The story takes place in NYC in the 80's as we follow Arnold Beckoff (Harvey Fierstein), an adorable Jewish drag queen trying to reconcile a fantabulicious lifestyle with his closeted bisexual lover, Ed Reese (hunkalicious Brian Kerwin). That's of course before a twinkalicious Alan Simon (totally babelicious Matthew Broderick) sets his sights on our deep-voiced performer.

Add a tough-as-nails Jewish Ma played by gay icon Anne Bancroft plus an adopted gay teenager and you have yourself all the ingredients needed for a delicious evening at home in front of the boob tube.

It will not come as a huge shock to her dahlings that Your Auntie Mamie adores Torch Song Trilogy, as it reminds her of everything that is good and beautiful about two people in love with each other and committing themselves to one another. It is also a vivid reminder of all the ugliness and unadulterated hatred most of us still have to face because of the gender of the person whom we choose to love.

The message is universal and timeless... but Torch Song Trilogy still manages to handle the subject matter in a very personal and emotional, yet realistic, way. So much so in fact that the viewer cannot help but being drawn into these characters' lives.

Certainly there is a lot of Arnold Beckoff in all of us, even if our personal experiences do not completely mirror his. It is a reminder that although we may have come a long way since the days of Arnold et al, there still is a long and arduous road ahead if we are to ever become full citizens, with every right and privilege afforded to our straight brothers and sisters.

Torch Song Trilogy is a MUST-OWN movie for every Gay DVD Collection, make that for EVERY DVD COLLECTION - Gay, Straight or Otherwise. A Gay Classic it is and always will be...

It's MGDR Foreign Film Wednesday and tonight's movie is a very sexy French import: Grande école (2003) (110 min - Not Rated - In French with English subtitles).

Synopsis:

Grande école is the story of a set of hot and sexy men and women attending one of France's most prestigious post-secondary private schools. In this intriguing and complex story, we are bombarded with countless erotically charged scene after scene. Loaded with hot male and female bodies engaged in some giant naked Twister game, Grande école is a voyeuristic journey into the secret world of tomorrow's French leaders.

Our main character is Paul (Grégori Baquet) is a young man who is slowly falling under the charms of one of his roommates, Louis-Arnaud (Jocelyn Quivrin), as well as a working-class Arab beauty Mécir (Salim Kechiouche).

The scenes are simply as hot as you can find in mainstream cinema these days without being X-rated for mature content. A very romantic (and extremely sensual) version of soft-core for those who enjoy a decent story line with the gratuitous sex scenes... :-)

It certainly does not hurt that the cast is über cute (see picture above) and this makes Grande école the sort of flick you could watch with a hot blind date under the pretense that it's a Foreign Film... Just make sure to buy yourself a copy for your Gay DVD Collection just in case the opportunity presents itself... ;-)

Today's Tuesday so it must be MGDR Coming Out Tuesday. Tonight's movie is an ADORABLE Belgian film: Love Songs (aka Les Chansons d'amour) (2007) (91 min - Not Rated - In French with English subtitles).

Synopsis:

Love Songs (aka Les Chansons d'amour) follows an attractive Parisian threesome, Ismaël (handsome as ever Louis Garrel), his girlfriend Julie (Ludivine Sagnier) and one of his female coworkers Alice (Clotilde Hesme). These three sing there way into every combination imaginable until a new (and ever so adorable) boy, Erwann (lovably cute Grégoire Leprince-Ringuet) is added to the equation.

Before you can say 'Hello Mary', Erwann falls head over heels for Ismaël who doesn't know what to do with all his new stalker's attention. Will Erwann win Ismaël's heart and soul or will he be just another temporary plaything?

The cinematography is delightful (this is filmed in PARIS after all) and the sight of Erwann in his undies is, in just one word, AMAZING... Okay, I feel like a dirty old hag now... Oh well! Nothing that a few cocktails can't cure... :-)

Now as the title implies, Love Songs (aka Les Chansons d'amour) is a musical of sorts inasmuch as the characters do occasionally sing to each other. Rather than detract from the story line, the singing adds a je ne sais quoi to the overall character of the film.
