It's Your Auntie Mamie's first movie review since the new scaled-down MGDR Weekly Schedule was announced and she is bringing you a rather interesting, if taboo, topic today. She will be delving into brotherly love with Harry and Max (1988) (117 min - Rated R). This is a somewhat timely subject with the upcoming theatrical release of the Brazilian movie of the same genre, Do começo ao fim.
Synopsis:
Harry and Max, is the story of 2 brothers, Harry (gorgolicious Bryce Johnson) and his younger sibling Max (adorable Cole Williams) who not only share a passion for the same career as but also for each other.
Although the storyline is a bit controversial, the director's treatment of their relationship and the actors' incredible on-screen chemistry make the viewers less likely to run out of the room screaming. We soon put their unusual relationship in the background and concentrate on their personal struggles.
It will come as no surprise to most that this movie has its share of sexual innuendos but there are no gratuitous nudity to speak of, which is somewhat unusual considering the actors involved are pure eye candy... But rather than diminish the final product, I think the lack of skin actually enhances the audience's appreciation for the thorny topic.
Likely to remain controversial, especially with the fundamentalist zealots arguing against marriage equality, Harry and Max remains an extremely well adapted and sensitive treatment of a very delicate subject matter.
