Welcome back my dahlings to My Gay DVD Reviews!

Auntie Mamie had barely gotten out of bed at the crack of noon thirty when she noticed the first catastrophe of the day. She had just ran out of cream for her morning beverage. How could she possibly face the day without her regular tall White Russian? If only she had used Peapod to schedule a weekly delivery, this tragedy could have been avoided. But like a good trooper, she managed to make do with a mere vodka and Kahlua on ice... J

After this minor setback, Auntie Mamie was not quite ready for the real drama to start i.e. her review of The Broken Hearts Club, an ode to Jim Harry of Tolland, CT who is this week's winner of the MGDR Viewer Shoutout. Jim also happens to be the Auntie Mamie's very first fan on Facebook. Thank you very much Jim for your movie recommendation and for faithfully following your favorite auntie's musings.

What Auntie Mamie REALLY needed was a little more inspiration. She needed to properly celebrate this Memorial Day Weekend, which is much more than just the unofficial start of summer and school vacation.

In order to pay tribute to the fallen men and women who had valiantly fought in America's conflicts around the globe (more than a few were probably gay by the way so isn't time for Congress to repeal that abominable ban on gays in the military?), Auntie Mamie decided she should start a new Memorial Day tradition of going to TreeGivers.com and plant a tree each year in their honor.

Warmed by her donation and feeling just a bit more patriotic, Auntie Mamie finally sat down at her desk to pen today's review of The Broken Hearts Club (2000) (91 min - Rated R)

Synopsis:
In this film, we follow a band of kindred spirits, fast friends living in Southern California who share their passion for life, friendship and yes, love of other boys (and each other sometimes).

This movie features many now-well-known actors such as Dean Cain (Mr. Superman himself) as Cole (the center-of-the-universe I-will-bed-anyone-I-wish hunk), Timothy Oliphant as Dennis (the main character and Cole's lovable sidekick), John Mahoney as Jack (the gay bar owner and everyone's father figure) and Andrew Keegan as Kevin (the newbie just coming out of the closet).

The acting is simply wonderful and the interaction between the characters feels so real and genuine. Auntie Mamie is sure that many of her gay friends would agree that it is almost as if they were watching the story of their life unfolding right in front of them. It is a story filled with laughter, love, joy, pain, sorrow and camaraderie. It is a very touching story of coming out and growing up, growing old and growing apart, falling in love and moving on. It's simply a gay classic that every one should include in their Gay DVD Collection.

Auntie Mamie was surprised to see that she was the first to upload a copy of the trailer for The Broken Hearts Club on YouTube. Take a look at her YouTube channel here.

As you can probably surmise from the raving review above, Auntie Mamie JUST ADORED The Broken Hearts Club and she thinks you will too. She gives it a rousing standing ovation and an 8.5 out of 10 rainbows.
